EFFECT OF FOLIAR FERTILIZATION WITH COPPER AND MANGANESE ON THE MALTING QUALITY OF BARLEY GRAIN (PRELIMINARY STUDY)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The effect of foliar fertilization of spring barley cv. Quench with PP-C ADOB Sp.z o.o. Sp. k. proprietary formulas containing Cu or Mn (ADOB 2.0 Cu IDHA and ADOB 2.0 Mn respectively) was assessed. The grain, laboratory obtained 4 and 5 day-old malts and Congress worts were subjected to technological assessment. The malting quality was determined with standard EBC methods. It was found that, even under growing conditions in 2014 which favoured the obtaining of good quality malts, foliar fertilization with Cu and Mn allows the quality of malts and worts to be improved. Moreover, fertilization with microelements decreased the malting losses during malts production by 2.6–3.6% and 0.8–1.4% for Cu and Mn fertilized grain respectively. It was also found that the use of Cu- and Mn-containing fertilizers improved the free amino nitrogen (FAN) content in worts especially in 5 day-old malts.
